Looking Forward to May 2nd
May 2nd should be a great day.
"Pearl Jam" by Pearl Jam is being released that day. Possibly one of the most anticipated albums in quite some time. I already have it pre-ordered. "Riot Act" was their last album of new material and that came out at the end of 2002. So its been awhile and I'm excited.
"10,000 Days" by Tool is also being released that day. Yet another of the most anticipated albums in awhile. Especially since Tool seems to be releasing albums only every 5 years or so. Their last release was Lateralus on May 15, 2001.
Also, although much less anticipated, the new Thursday album comes out that day.
But I can't remember the last time that two bands that release albums so sporadically, released their new albums on the same day. At least not two bands as musically important or with as large followings as Pearl Jam and Tool. I'm just not sure which album I'm more anxious to hear.

I'm by far more excited about the new Pearl Jam album. I like Tool but to me most tool songs sound pretty much the same.
I'm actually a little bit surprised that you say that. Since you're a musician and long-time guitarist, I thought you'd like Tool for their musical complexity. But to each his own I guess.
I'm excited of the idea that Tool will be touring against. By far one of the most intense bands to see live. Their live show puts everyone else's to shame (that I've seen) with the exception of Rob Zombie.
I agree with Billy.
When written out, Tool's music is certainly complex, most notably in the percussion if you ask me. but a lot of their songs have a very similar feel.
I can hardly beleive someone would be more excited for pearl jam. I think they are basic and awful and trumped by tool.
Here's the thing. There is no denying how good Pearl Jam is. Crappy bands don't stick around for over 15 years and continue to sell out large arenas. Their music is great and catchy and whatever else. Not to mention the fact that they are a very important band when you look at music history and music as it pertains to culture.
Then there is Tool. A band that sounds like very very few other bands. There are really no other bands that sound like them that get any major radio play. They are also, in my opinion, one of the most underappreciated bands of the past 20 years. Yes, they get radio play yet they never managed to get as big a following as bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Rage, STP, etc. They are also possibly the best musicians of any radio-played band around.
As for wozzybear and tenacious saying that the songs sound the same, I flat out call bullshit on that one. If you think that, then you haven't listened hard enough. Their music is taken to a higher level with each album they release. Its at the point where you can tell which CD a song is on just by listening to the complexity of the music. Yes, songs on the same album have a similar feel to them, but that's done on purpose I believe. Its about making an album as a whole, not just a collection of songs that were written around the same time. Anyway, just my thoughts.
It's not Bullshit buddy, it's just our opinion. I own four of Tool's album's, as well as "A Perfect Circle's" first album...And I like them all very much. And while their sound IS incredibly unique, I think many of the songs from different albums have a very similar feel. That's just how my ears hear it....Not trying to take anything away from Tool. They're one of the better bands of our generation.
And Glenstein: To call Pearl Jam "basic" could be one of the greatest overstatements of the last decade.
First of all, Glenstein's hearing privileges should be revoked.
Secondly, tool is a very talented group of musicians, but so is the london philharmonic orchestra. I like tool a lot, and as a musician I do appreciate musicianship, but that doesn't change my opinion. Also, Mudvayne are also very good musicians. Their time signatures are out their and their bassist is amazing.
Dude, the London Philharmonic's got nothing on the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. VPO kicks major ass!
And yes, when it comes down to it, its all a matter of opinion.
Except for glenstein.....Much like Billy has revoked his hearing privelages, I would like to revoke his opinion privelages....
It is always funny and entertaining to listen to and/or read you guys discuss your love of Pearl Jam. It reminds me of the old SNL skit where the guys used to sit around and opine about Ditka and Tha Bears.
Ditka versus a Hurricane. BUT...the hurricane's name is Hurricane Ditka.
Ditka vs. God.
That's a trick question! Ditka IS God!
